In a concrete jungle like Dhaka, recreation is usually limited to the mesh of fancy restaurants. Scope for
adventure or outdoor recreational activity is barely available and greenery is mostly considered a luxury.
In order to counter this situation, a new project named ‘Go Kart Courtside’ has come to life. This is located
in Madani Avenue, bedside Chef’s table Courtside, and was launched by United group on the 21st of
January. This project is a motorsport road racing zone, operated with open-wheeled vehicles, popularly
known as a ‘Kart’.

Anyone above 15 years of age can enjoy the ride, but a minimum height of five feet is mandatory. Go Kart
will offer five different packages, including single race, race with friends, team race, corporate member
race, and race with family. There are also plans to introduce year-long membership cards in four
categories (Carbon, Platinum, Gold, Silver) for loyal customers, which will include discounts in rides, as
well as discounts for certain restaurants in Chef’s Table Courtside.
This has been blowing up on the Internet since the news of its opening broke out. Therefore, I along with
a few friends planned to go there and see what the craze was all actually about. Everybody had very high
expectations from it. We had reached there at about 3 pm on a Tuesday, even though it was a weekday,
yet the place was filled with people waiting for their turn. The track had a really nice environment as it was
filled with greenery and was generally quite clean. There were three people always observing the track in
case of an emergency.

Prior to racing, riders were be guided by professional instructors and were provided with a flyer
highlighting the racing zones, rules, and regulations. The riders must also sign a waiver form, and wear a
helmet and the racing tracksuit provided by the authority at all times while on the track.
However, we had to wait for more than an hour for our turn, which was quite disappointing. Moreover,
there are only three laps in each round which only lasted for about 10 to 15 minutes or so which had left
us dissatisfied. Furthermore, the staff is highly disorganized as there were finding it difficult to control the
crowd, some people were breaking the line while others were missing their chance. Lastly, the engines of
the vehicles that they provided are supposedly made by Honda and are imported from abroad, but they
varied a lot as some of them seemed to be of the way lower in quality.
Overall, it was a refreshing experience amidst the pandemic where we are being starved of recreational
activities, however, there is room for improvements. In my opinion, spending tk.500 for 15 minutes of joy
while the waiting time is an hour is not worth it, they should offer at least 5 Laps each round. Everyone
should experience it once, but I would not go for a second time.
