When we hear ‘October’ the first word that comes to the minds of many people is Halloween. As October arrives, Halloween vibes can be noticed in most places. From carving pumpkins to trick or treating, Halloween has been one of the most engaging celebrations for youngsters at all times.
Halloween is celebrated worldwide on 31st October every year. The origin of this celebration goes way back to 1745. It was said that spirits of the dead returned home on November the 1st, the Celtic New Year, and people repelled the spirits by starting bonfires and dressing up in costumes. This festival was known as Samhain.
Even today, Halloween is celebrated by dressing up and sharing scary stories. Children go from house to house saying ‘Trick or Treat’. Trick refers to a mischievous act towards a person if they choose ‘Trick’ while ‘Treat’ is giving candies to the children. Carved pumpkins, also known as Jack-o’-lanterns, are made and are one of the most popular features of Halloween. People often tend to decorate their houses using plastic bats, candles, spider webs, etc.
This year something new might be seen in the exciting Halloween parties. Costumes related to ‘Squid Game’, the Netflix series that gained popularity in a short amount of time, can be noticed. Additionally, other characters such as Harry Potter, Harley Quinn & Spider Man might possibly inspire people.
Despite having to follow safety rules strictly due to Covid-19, many people are looking forward to celebrating Halloween. Halloween enables children to involve themselves in enjoyable activities and spend more time with friends & family. The celebration allows everyone to relax and have fun with loved ones.
