I bet, all of us have come across famous, laced, and fancy quotes. Do we always know their deep, inner meanings? Today, I will be decoding some of the famous quotes so that you understand their meaning and imply it in your life to get rid of the ‘Nalayak’ (stupid in Hindi) label thrown by typical, desi parents! Ready to add some ‘gyan’ in life? Here you go.

  1. “Give someone enough rope and they will hang themselves”

Decoded version: Give someone enough time and freedom and they will get into trouble (and so off you go to the same sad old corner of your room to memorize those damn chemistry notes)

  1. “Give someone an inch and they will take a mile(yard)”

Decoded version: Give someone a little and they will want more people are never satisfied (and that my friends is why you cannot order pizza for dinner every night)

  1. “If a camel gets his nose in a tent, his body will follow.”

Decoded version: If you let something intrusive enter your life, your life will become difficult.(and that is why listen to your mother when she tells you a friend is “toxic”)

  1. “(The best) helping hand is at the end of your sleeve.”

Decoded version: The best way to get something done is to do it yourself. (DIY kids… d…i…y….)

  1. “If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride”

Decoded version: Wishing alone is of no use; you must act as well

(“Dreamers quit dreaming”

– some brown parent)

  1. “In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king”

Decoded version: A man of even limited ability has an advantage over a person who is less able

  1. “Might as well be hanged for a sheep as (for) a lamb

Decoded version: If the penalty is going to be the same, you might as well commit the greater offense.

  1. “Never trouble troubles until troubles trouble you”

Decoded version: Don’t look for problems in advance; deal with them when they arise. (Anxious over-thinkers you all know what to do now!)

  1. “One of these days is none of these days”

Decoded version: Until the date is set, ‘one of these days’ remains a vague promise ( DO. IT. ON. TIME. )

  1. “One swallow doesn’t make a summer”

Decoded version: A single satisfactory event does not mean that all the others will be as good (“This is not good enough for us to buy you that ps5”

-also some brown parents)

Done? Congratulations! You have successfully added some potion of knowledge in your brain. Do not forget to attack others with this newly gained potion!

Ah-ha, you have successfully removed the tag of ‘Nalayak’.
