Do you always stare at your phone for no particular reason? Do you feel unproductive
and procrastinate for long hours instead of completing your work? You sound just like a
certain someone I know.
“psst…. your the only unproductive person you know.
Oh really?”
“Yes……”
“……………..”
Ahm. As I was saying.
Worry not fellow reader. You have reached the door to enlightenment. This article will
contain all the rational and necessary points required to increase the productivity to
procrastination ratio. This is a gift to you all from a fellow procrastinator who has
struggled just as much as you.
Dopamine detox
Dopamine is a chemical in our brain which incites pleasure /happiness.
Dopamine detox is limiting our dopamine by not doing things we like, such as binge-
watching shows, procrastinating, etc. When we limit our dosage of dopamine we are
essentially decreasing our tolerance for entertainment thus we become interested even
in the most uninteresting things. ( such as our work).
Procedure: Stay away from phones, games, extremely entertaining fiction books, etc,
basically everything entertaining for 1 day a week. This should keep a good balance
and increase your productivity.
Creating schedules and to-do lists.
Right after waking up in the morning, if you set up an objective for the day and create a
to-do list, it will guilt trip your brain into working. As you already know procrastinators
are beyond hopeless, so they have to take strict measures like manipulating their own
brains. Thus to take it a notch further I suggest creating a schedule not by yourself, but
by someone else entirely.
Make someone create a schedule and make yourself believe that it is essential for you
to follow this schedule. Considering the fact you annoyed someone else for this.
P.S remember that the person has to be someone important to you, someone, you
respect and don't want to disturb.
Fix your sleep schedule
Create your sleep schedule depending on the fact of whether you are a day or night
person. Sleep at least 7 to 8 hours, or you’ll feel sleepy all day and waste all day feeling
unproductive.
Listen to classical music and imagine that you are a genius
Last but not least listen to classical music. Any classical is ok but I prefer English
classical as it creates the best atmosphere for studying or working.
The highlight of this tip is to act like a genius protagonist who can solve all the problems
of this world. My preferred character is Lelouch and Einstein. As Lacrimosa plays in the
background I imagine myself as the genius who is working hard. It might work for some
and not others but this has helped me a great deal and increased my productivity while
also making me feel cool.
I must say that one or two tips here might be a bit peculiar but as a master
procrastinator, creative ways need to be implemented as procrastinators share the
same philosophy” I never put off till tomorrow, what I can do the day after- Oscar Wilde.”
