Mental health is an important aspect for a healthy life alongside physical health. It refers to an individual’s well-being that determines how they deal with daily struggles. Frustration, nervousness or any other traumatic personal experience may trigger stress and anxiety. This may further lead to depression and other severe mental health issues. This deteriorates a person’s mental health a great deal, hence it is important to know how to handle stress and battle through life.

The widespread COVID-19 has not only put everyone into lockdown, it has also put thousands of people into despair and hopelessness. Hundreds of people are losing their jobs, hundreds of people distraught over the depressing news about yet more deaths and infected, and thousands more concerned whether they will make it through alright. All such uncertainty revolving around the future and the depressing news everyday seems to be affecting many. Despite the ongoing hardships, it is quintessential to keep trying to hold on to our sanity.

There are numerous ways to prioritize your mental health and not let it consume you. Avoid seeing the news and engage yourselves in various different activities. Take a breather, exercise and freshen up your minds. Reaching out to friends and family helps a great deal in lightening up one’s mood. Talk to a trusted friend if you are feeling down, it’s okay to not feel alright. Don’t be ashamed to talk about your feelings if you are not feeling well and have faith that everything will be alright.

According to the researchers of the WHO, approximately 1 out of 4 people will suffer from some kind of mental illness, at some point of their lives. However, about 60 percent of the people with mental health issues do not seek medical support, and approximately less than 50 percent of the people get proper treatment after confronting medical help. The COVID 19 virus affected people globally and the number of people suffering from mental health issues has increased since. In the UK, a survey took place with around 2000 people. About 83 percent said that their mental health worsened after the pandemic started.

To sum it up, people need to be more aware of the importance of proper mental health. Don’t tire your minds over something you have no control over. It’s important for everyone to look after themselves and prioritize their mental health refraining from anything that may affect it negatively. What is to happen will happen eventually, thus focus on what is within your limits. During these very

exhausting times we must take care of each other and ourselves, overcoming our dark days together.
