Halloween, a night when people originally believed dead spirits roamed the streets, a night when saints would go door to door attempting  to hallow these aforementioned spirits. Now, even though ghosts aren’t walking the streets, who’s stopping people dressing as them? Starting from your next door neighbour to Hollywood’s biggest celebrities everybody goes all out to celebrate this lighthearted tradition, especially this year as we’ve all been stuck inside for too long.

To start with, one of the best Halloween parties of this year, Harryween- a halloween concert held by Harry Styles in New York. Styles himself donned a custom Gucci look (to no surprise) as the beloved Dorothy! He put on a blue dress printed with what appeared to be small red cherries, ruby red tights and his signature boots customised to look like Dorothy’s red slippers. To complete the outfit he put on a blue bow, bright pink blush and mascara. “In  recent years, especially this year, I’ve decided to get a little more dressed up for Halloween. And I must say, I feel fabulous” is what he said to his costume.

The second night, Harry decided to go as Pierrot the sad clown. Pierrot is a part of the commedia dell’arte which has origins in the late seventeenth-century. Pierrot, the sad clown in white face and loose blouse, expressing slowly and subtly in the liminal space beyond words, emerged in the nineteenth century to become the embodiment of a certain strain of artistic sentiment: sensitive, melancholy, and intrinsically alone, playful and daring through the subversion of language while suggesting the fraught and facile nature of gender. Similarly, Harry was drowned in a white lace two piece with puffy sleeves and puffy trousers cuffed at the ankle. To complete the sad clown’s signature look, he even put on pierrot’s sad tears!

Even ‘Harries’, as Harry Styles’s fans like to call themselves, have been going all out in homage to their flamboyant idol for his Love on Tour concerts. To be honest, their d-i-y costumes were far more impressive considering most of them made it from scratch with no personal designer! On top of that, their creativity was astounding; from amazon one pieces to full handcrafted cosplays!

Moving along we have the iconic Doja Cat who’s known for her hilariously elaborate outfits and lighthearted comedic streak. However, when has she ever not dressed to impress? We all remember the mysterious Ms Bellum from the PowerPuff Girls, the woman in red whose face was always veiled by her thick orange hair. Doja decided to go as her for Halloween and she nailed it all. From the russian ruby red coat and matching skirt tied together with a thick black belt to the orange hair strategically swooping over one side, Doja has done it again. But wait, there’s more! In a fabulous blue two-piece ensemble she embodied Kidagakash Nedakh (Princess Kita of Atlantis) from Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Her stylist even got the flirty makeup, crystal jewellery and crescent moon warrior staff right.

Honourable mentions: For their couples costume, Jade Thirwall from Little Mix was Marge Simpson while Jordan Stephens was Sideshow Bob from The Simpsons. The Little Mix singer carried a cutout of Homer Simpson’s head and shared her costume proudly with a teasing caption. In a blonde bob and blue dress, Olivia Rodrigo was Michelle Pfeiffer’s Elvira Hancock from Scarface. Taylor Swift dressed up as an adorable squirrel as an easter egg for the upcoming re-recording of her album RED. The Weeknd completely transformed himself into Marlon Brando as The Godfather.
